Guardian FAQs

How do I choose the right program for my child?

Talk to your child; find a program that fits them, that will have activities that will interest them.

Does Camp Tamarack offer Day Camp?

We do offer a day camp option for our Primary Camp Program, only.  This program is specifically designed for ages four to seven.  All of our other programs are sleep-away.

Is Camp Tamarack a Sleep-away Camp?

Yes, Camp Tamarack is a sleep away camp.  All of our programs are week long, sleep away programs, and our staff sleep in the cabins, providing care through the night to your children.

Are you sure my child is ready for sleep away camp?

If your child is not ready or willing to go away to camp, they may be miserable and in turn affect the experiences of other campers.  It is difficult to assist a camper experiencing homesickness who never wanted to attend camp in the first place.

What if I am unable to afford the cost of camp?

Camp Tamarack offers a Campership program for families that are unable, not unwilling to pay for camp.

How long are your summer camps?

Each session at Camp Tamarack is just under one week.  Camper’s are dropped off on Sunday afternoon and picked up on Friday morning.

Who are my counsellours?

Your counsellours are a variety of young adults, pursuing recreation, health, or education careers.  They all have a passion for creating opportunities for children, youth and teens!

What kind of training do your counsellours have?

All of our staff receives one week of orientation and training.  They learn the ins and outs of Camp Tamarack, leading programs, risk management, health and wellness, and cabin supervision. They all arrive to Camp Tamarack with Standard First Aid, and CPR training, as well as a clear criminal record check and child intervention check.

What is the food like? My child has a special diet?

Food services staff at Camp Tamarack take pride in the food they provide to all of our campers.  The menu ensures well balanced and nutritious “camper friendly” meals.  Servings are hearty (seconds are always available) and we can accommodate any allergies or special diets.  While we cannot guarantee that our site is nut-free, we do guarantee that all meals prepared by Camp Tamarack are nut-free.

Do campers get to choose their own activities?

We want campers to get the most out of their experience at Camp Tamarack by trying a little of everything.  Some activities are open choice, others are group rotation.

I have other questions, who can I talk to?
